![]() ![]() They had to be a team, a united front when it came to parenting such a troublemaking child. They had become much closer since Melinoe was born. Persephone sighed and leaned into the desk. “It’s not that it's just-” Persephone said, exasperated. “To make her happy…to get her to like you.” He was too soft for her to be truly frightening. The fearsome Lord of the Underworld never scared her. “Attention,” he said, then looking directly at their daughter with that grim face of his, narrowed his eyes, “is exactly what she wants.” “Are you not going to give her any attention?” she questioned her husband. ![]() She smiled at her daughter, who looked so much like her. “There you are,” Persephone exclaimed with relief. They had such wonderful patterns in the garden and always felt special, just like her children. She was amazed at how they expressed codominant phenotypes in such a beautiful way. They reminded her of the heterozygous flowers in her mothers garden. Her mismatched eyes were a direct mirror of Zagreus’ and a direct reflection of her parents’. Hades remained deadly serious at work, even with a giggling princess twirling his meticulous beard between her tiny sausage fingers. Melinoe was sitting happily on her father’s desk playing with his beard. She heard giggling coming from the main hall, a place she had just searched thoroughly, and rushed back. Being away from her family for six months certainly didn’t help matters. She had missed so much of Zagreus’ life that she wanted to be part of Melinoe’s as much as possible. Mel had recently grown quite active, especially during the time Nyx was away, which was exactly when Persephone needed her help the most. ![]() “Where could that girl be? How is she moving so quickly? She only just learned to walk!” Not literally, as there was plenty of fruit on the tree, but figuratively, as her search was unsuccessful. Hades had said it looked like hers, but she maintained that was only because he rarely saw anyone else smile. Zagreus shot her that charming smile of his. “Well if you do see her.” “I’ll alert the guard!” “Yes, have fun on your date,” she said with a smile. She imagined discussing such things with his estranged mother might not be very comfortable. “Right,” she stopped him, much to their mutual relief. “Oh…uh Thanatos and I were going to err-” Persephone sighed a mix of frustration and concern. Zagreus was preening his own spiky hair by the mirror. Persephone’s hair was somehow wilder than usual. “Zagreus, is your sister here?” she asked with a hint of worry. She could've sworn she saw that mischievous child heading towards the garden. “Mel? Melinoe?” Persephone called frantically. ![]()
